Tartine

Tartine is one of those places Prishtina has watched grow up. Older regulars remember it as a tiny hole-in-the-wall. Now it sits in the street affectionately called Kafet e Vogla (The Little Cafes street) with a leafy terrace and a wood-heavy interior.

Tartine was conceptualized by two friends, and the result was a warm, thoughtful café that looks closer to someone's very well-designed living room than a generic café.

The tartines (open-faced sourdough sandwiches with seasonal toppings) are the obvious order, but the real insider move is checking whether there is any cheesecake left. It sells out often, and we maintain it is the best slice in town.

Tartine has also somehow become one of those unofficial headquarters for Prishtina's international crowd. Apparently, if you put specialty coffee, Chemex and French-style lunch in one room the city's resident Westerners will eventually find it.

Come with a book or a laptop and do not be surprised if your lunch turns into dessert which turns into coffee which turns into a glass of wine, and suddenly most of your afternoon belongs to Tartine. We warned you we take things slow here.
