Prishtina Queer Festival

Prishtina Queer Festival returns for a fourth edition, 4 to 6 September, run by the queer collective Dylberizm. Three days of film, music, drag and workshops across venues in the centre. This year's programme asks how systems and social norms shape the way we live, love, express ourselves and inhabit our bodies. Almost all of it is free.

Friday opens quietly and ends loud. Besfort Syla's exhibition and book, From An Uncomfortable Distance, I Remain, opens at 20:00 at the Hajde Foundation, curated with Rina Meta. It is photography about the silences that shape a family, and about growing up in Kosovo. The same evening the sixth floor terrace of the Grand Hotel reopens for a welcome party with Soul Case, free to walk into, and the night carries on at e.dh.e from 23:59 with Gemza of Babetronixx.

Saturday is the fullest day. Vesa Bunjaku leads an anti surveillance makeup workshop at 11:00, on painting a face that a recognition system cannot read. At 13:00 Kino Armata screens two Kosovar shorts back to back: Two People Exchanging Saliva, the Academy Award winner starring Luana Bajrami, and the premiere of Korab Jashari's To The Boy I Was. At 17:00 the Museum Burgu i Idealit hosts the launch of No One Can Change Your Identity, Not Even War, Dylberizm's book of queer testimony from the Kosovo War. Then at 23:00 the Burnt Hall at the Palace of Youth hosts Choke Hole, the drag wrestling collective from New Orleans, for Balkan Beatdown, with Angelboy, Oldyungmayn and Rebiswan on the decks until six in the morning.

Sunday is the one to bring people to. Kafet e Rakisë turns into a flea market and a street party from 18:00, free for everyone. Makadsi flies in from New York to close it, after James Indigo from London, Lisa Kida from Berlin and Rindaya from Prishtina. Earlier that afternoon Kino Armata screens eight queer animated shorts from Gobelins in Paris. Saturday night is the only thing all weekend you need a ticket for.
